McCulloch, James Donald “Don” Cranbrook, B.C., dearly loved father, grandfather, and brother, passed away Monday, June 27, 2005, in Steepleview Transition Unit after a lengthy illness.
Don was born in Camrose, Alberta, on April 1, 1934. He was a Federal Fisheries Officer for many years with postings in Vancouver, Kitimat, Masset, Port Alberni and Kamloops where he eventually retired. He was an avid reader saving every book he ever bought, liked to hunt and fish and enjoyed woodworking in his shop. He was also an animal lover and taught his children that all animals were to be respected.
Don is survived by his brother, Stuart Clayton (Marian) McCulloch, White Rock, his son, James Bradley McCulloch, Grande Prairie, Alberta, his daughters Patricia (Patti), Elizabeth (Austin) Stone, Cranbrook and Sandra Dawn (Don) Lequieu, Shingle Springs, California, and his two young grandsons, Jordan Daniel Stone and Ryan Connor Lequieu. He is also survived by three aunts, a niece, and three nephews, and many cousins. Don was predeceased by his father, Donald Francis McCulloch in 1962 and his mother, Wilhelmine (Wright) McCulloch in 1986 and by his wife Eleanor Loreen (Kotkas) in 2000. He was also predeceased by four aunts and an uncle.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sarah Chesney for the wonderful care she gave our Dad and his family, the staff at Steepleview Transition Unit and all the health care professionals who attended Dad over the past few years, and Miranda who helped look after Dad while he was still able to be at home. Don’s children would also like to thank their Mom Louise, for helping to take care of Dad. You have shown your children what being a family is all about. There will be no funeral service at the request of the deceased. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers we would ask that you be kind to one another, and if you are fortunate to still have your parents – tell them you love them, hug your children, and treasure your family.
